For Josh Liberson & Joonas Makkonen From Steven Brady, after our call on 25 Sept

“Signal that we can close PLG, period.”
Here's how we get it in 90 days.

On Friday you asked for four things: what to focus on, what I'd do, what we'd measure and where we'd get to. Joonas asked for pricing too. They're all below, in that order, so we can pick it apart together.

What I heard

Six things from the call that shape the plan.

1. What to focus on

Three priorities, in this order.

First

Get people past the Slack wall

Every channel we add pours into the same funnel. If setup dies at the Slack step, more traffic just means more stalled setups. This comes before anything else.

Second

Win the AMA before going wide

Two members are already in, the agencies compete for the same jobs, and each one reps a roster of artists who could each get a Dobbin. It's the fastest route to a repeatable story.

Third

Send people their Dobbin, already built

At $25 a build, outbound works like a set of cheap ad units. Each segment and message is a test, and we keep the ones that turn into paid accounts.

Kept warm on the side: DTCMVP, with Sean's own Dobbin as the demo to its members. DLN, with Area17 as the proof. Fractional advisors building Dobbins for their clients: interesting, but they rarely have budget, so it's a small test and nothing more.

The funnel, updated after the call

Five stages, and stage four is where it leaks.

1 Traffic

People find Dobbin

Matt's LinkedIn outbound, Josh's content, AMA, DTCMVP, DLN, referrals. Apollo visitor tracking went live last week.

FixOne tagged install link per network, per sending account and per play.

2 Install

install.dobbin.ai

A few clicks, 30 day free trial

FixEnrich and score every install the minute it lands, and route it in Pipedrive.

3 Build

The magic trick

About 15 minutes and $25 later, a working foundation built from public presence

FixFind the early usage signal that best predicts retention, and trigger the follow-up from it.

4 Slack

The wall

Add to Slack needs someone with admin rights, and the person who started setup often doesn't have them

FixAn “ask me anything” box on their foundation, a one-click note to their Slack admin, and a human within a day for high-fit stalls.

5 Paid

Stripe

$1K to $5K a month today, not yet tested

FixA “book a Dobbin expert” session as the step up, and pricing tests once the baseline is in.

2. What I'd do

Four to focus on and who owns each.

Get past the Slack wall

Joonas builds it, I measure it

Joonas's idea from the call: put an excerpt of their foundation next to the Add to Slack button, with a prompt box so they can ask it something. People who can't install yet still get to see what they'd be getting.

  • A prefilled “can you add this for us?” note the user forwards to whoever runs their Slack.
  • High-fit installs that stall here get a Dobbin expert session offered within 24 hours.
  • We measure install to Slack-connected before and after, so we know the change worked.
  • From existing customers, pull time to first Slack message, messages sent in days 7 to 30, and channels connected in the first 30 days. Whichever tracks best with who stayed becomes the usage number we steer trials toward.

The AMA beachhead

Me, Josh, and the former agent Josh is talking to

Seliger's studio and Giant Artists are the proof. Agencies in the first segments get their Dobbin built before anyone contacts them, and a member offer gives them a reason to act now.

  • A live session where a current member walks through their own Dobbin, followed by a members-only offer. This is the webinar idea I raised on the call.
  • If the former agent comes on board, I'd back their warm intros with lists, tracking and follow-up.
  • Once an agency is live, the next sale is a Dobbin for each artist on its roster.
From our call “So we now have 0.8% of the total membership of the AMA. So I am meeting later today with another person who used to be an agent in that world who's basically like a, you know, gun for hire now looking to go sell to that world. And it seems to me that we've got two of the leading groups in their membership right now. We get a third one, we get a fourth one. And we may have like this weird little niche where each one of those agents can be building Dobbins for each one of their customers, right? Each one of their photographers, right? So it's 250 members, but it's 2,000 artists.” Josh Liberson, 25 Sept

“We already built your Dobbin”

Matt sends, I pick the segments and messages

Lists come from Apollo website visitors, people engaging with Josh's posts, and the three networks. Each segment gets a pre-built Dobbin and one short message. Alex's anonymized Slack-thread stories go in as proof.

Sample DM, AMA agency owner Ran your site through Dobbin last night and it built your agency's own AI: your roster, how you pitch, the voice of your treatments. Mark Seliger's studio uses theirs to answer RFPs in 30 minutes. It's yours to poke at for 30 days, free. Want the link?

People already building their own

A pain-qualified list from content engagement

The list: people who fit the ICP and engage with posts about Obsidian or Notion as a company wiki, context engineering, company brains, or AI consultants. Josh put it well on the call: when someone decides they need a company brain, we want them to think of Dobbin before they sit down to build one in Obsidian.

  • Signado or Apify handles the social listening: post and comment keywords, accounts to follow and similar. The results are then filtered on ICP and PQS details.
  • The offer is Joonas's answer to build vs. buy: install Dobbin and take every idea from it. They run it for 30 days alongside whatever they're building, then compare.
  • They're already sold on the problem and are only deciding how to solve it.

4. Where we'd get to

30 / 60 / 90

Days 1 to 30

Foundations and funnels

  • Tagged links and install scoring live with baseline numbers for every stage
  • Slack step change shipped with before and after numbers
  • Retention leading indicator picked from existing customer usage
  • Pain-qualified segments picked from the voice of the customer: CRM data, success stories, talks with CS, and reviews of discovery and onboarding calls
  • Matt guided through account mapping and segmentation of the AMA agency list
  • With Matt, the next two largest PQS fits mapped across the TAM, with PQS or PVP outreach campaigns built for each

By day 30: a number for every stage, and targets we agree on together.

Days 31 to 60

Put more behind what converts

  • Matt guided on lookalike prospecting builds from all paying customers
  • AMA member session run and the member offer out
  • More volume on the segments showing the best leading indicator of customer retention
  • First trial length or pricing test running
  • DTCMVP warmed up with Sean's Dobbin as the demo

By day 60: two channels producing trials every week.

Days 61 to 90

Prove it closes without you

  • First cohort of accounts that paid with no founder-led sale
  • Known cost per paid account, by channel
  • The playbook written up in Notion, plus a call on who runs it next

By day 90: AMA from 2 to 6 agencies and 10 self-serve paid accounts, plus a clear yes or no on making this permanent.

The day 90 targets are my starting point. I'd rather set them with you once week one gives us the baseline.

Pricing

The contract as you posted it.

$12,000 a month, 90 days

  • Starts as soon as you say go. Based in Lisbon, working East Coast hours.
  • Build spend and any new tools are Dobbin's, budgeted once the first segments are built and selected.
  • At day 90 we look at the numbers above and talk about the permanent role and equity.
